CARRERA POSITIONS

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The DC Children and Youth Investment Trust Corporation and the Children’s Aid Society Carrera Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Program are partnering to deliver an exciting and innovative program to help youth develop the desire for a productive future by avoiding pregnancy and making responsible decisions.

The DC Carrera Trust Program includes (7) fundamental components:

  • Education
  • Employment
  • Self-Expression
  • Lifetime Individual Sports
  • Family Life and Sexuality Education (FLSE)
  • Mental Health
  • Medical and Dental Care.

The program is integrated within the school day at the Arts and Technology Academy Public Charter School. Currently we are working with the 5th and 6th grades during the school day and bi-weekly on Saturdays. The program will follow its participants through to high school graduation and beyond.

CLUSTER COACH

With funding from The Wallace Foundation, the DC Children & Youth Investment Trust (the Trust) is implementing a multi-pronged plan to improve DC’s Out of School time (OST) efforts in five key areas: deepening the city leadership’s support of OST, developing a data collection/sharing/analysis system, piloting a service delivery model, increasing quality programming through standards, outcomes and capacity building for providers, and a public information campaign to promote the value and benefits of OST. The initiative is currently named Project My Time to reflect the youth development philosophy of engaging youth in the critical hours after school.

The Cluster Coach plays a critical role in the delivery of high quality OST programs at all DC Public Schools (DCPS) OST sites. The Cluster Coach works closely with the site-level Afterschool Coordinators, Program Assistants, teachers/coaches and providers to create an infrastructure that sustains an integrated system of services, partnerships and programs that support the school in meeting its School Improvement Plan goals. The Cluster Coach reports jointly to the Trust and the DCPS OST Steering Committee and is responsible for collecting and evaluating data, and providing feedback on pilot site operations.

Responsibilities:
The Cluster Coach will support the screening, recruiting and implementation of promising community partnerships aimed at supporting student achievement and high quality teaching and learning opportunities. This shall include the mapping, coordinating, monitoring and sharing of resources that provide direct service to youth and families. The Cluster Coach will also ensure that all out-of-school time staff is supported with the knowledge of best practices in operations and stakeholders are provided a forum for input.
Each Cluster Coach will be assigned to “coach” between 10 and 20 DCPS school sites, depending on geographic location and coordinate a DCPS OST middle school site, designated as a Project My Time site.

Cluster Coaches in Support of DCPS OST Strategy:

  • Providing training and technical assistance to all DCPS Afterschool Coordinators, Site Assistants, teachers/coaches on OST best practices and youth development
  • Supporting the implementation of quality standards developed jointly by DCPS OST Steering Committee and the Trust to help assure program quality by providing training and technical assistance and monitoring for all enrichment providers placed in DCPS sites on OST standards for quality operations and youth development
  • Encouraging alignment of OST learning opportunities and DCPS learning standards and curricula
  • Establishing and maintaining regular meetings with the principal and other local staff, and participating in DCPS staff meetings as requested by principal
  • Co-facilitation with the Afterschool Coordinator, of community-level meetings to provide a forum for stakeholder input about OST program operations and community needs
  • Managing data-collection process for mapping partner involvement in schools and overall DCPS system; collect, verify, compile, analyze and summarize program outcome data; monitor resource capabilities and systemic distribution
  • Researching current industry trends and best practices on program operations and provide training and technical assistance to site-level afterschool staff
  • Other related duties as assigned


Cluster Coach as Site Director:

  • In partnership with local principal, conduct an inventory of existing OST programs and perform a needs assessment for additional OST programs at the school
  • Conduct ongoing enrollment and promotional activities to encourage higher attendance and participation of students
  • Ensure that adequate individual space and utilization of shared space is allotted to all OST programs in the building through the space request process
  • Work with OST providers to ensure maximum benefits to participants through peer learning, resource sharing, etc.
  • Develop and enforce policies to ensure proper care and security of school [and CBO] facilities, property, resources and materials.


Requirements: :

Master’s Degree in education, or related human services discipline; or a Bachelor’s degree in education or related human services field with a minimum of 5 years related experience

  • Strong organizational, monitoring and interpersonal skills with proven trouble-shooting, coordination, and multi-tasking performance; excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience working with diverse constituents
  • Experience working with community organizations; familiarity with youth development and enrichment needs and resources; knowledge of public school environment preferred
  • Strong background in youth development
  • Experience working with local government entities and public officials with at least 2 years of experience working with DCPS, directly or indirectly
  • Experience working with low-income families and children
  • Some experience in programming for children and/or youth

DIRECTOR OF LEARNING AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The DC Children & Youth Investment Trust Corporation (Trust) is growing. We are adding a new and exciting dimension to our Learning & Organization Development Department. (LOD)

This position, Director of Learning & Organization Development, reports to the Vice President of LOD. As Director of LOD, you will develop curricula and materials based on customer needs; consult with the VP LOD, staff and grantees on Human Performance Improvement and assist with solution implementation, evaluation criteria and other OD learning practices. You will also facilitate youth development, leadership, management, customer service and personality profile management training (DISC or Myers Briggs).

In addition, you will take a lead role in designing learning programs for the emerging New Leaders, New Communities academy (NLNC). The NLNC is on target to help build leadership and organization development throughout Washington, DC’s community based organizations and other non-profit organizations that serve children & youth. You will be challenged to help build this entity from the ground up.

This position will have supervisory responsibilities as well.

The successful candidate will be a polished professional with a bachelor’s degree in education or business administration and a Masters Degree, preferably in organization development or adult education; a minimum of 7-10 years experience in training, leadership, and organization development; and a minimum of 3-5 years managing a learning/training organization; extensive facilitation and presentation experience; excellent communication, analytical and problem solving skills. In addition, the successful candidate will have good people management skills, strong multi-tasking skills, a thorough knowledge of adult learning styles and a proficiency with cutting edge technology (e.g., developing Webinars) or a willingness to learn.

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

DC Children & Youth Investment Trust Corporation (the Trust), a public/private partnership chartered by the District of Columbia to help a wide variety of organizations improve the quality, quantity and accessibility of services and opportunities for every child in the city, has a number of growth openings.

The Director of Development is responsible for increasing the visibility of the Trust, identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding corporations, corporate foundations and private foundations. The incumbent would be actively engaged in working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing public and private funders in the DC area as well as in other key communities of interest to the Trust that will result in funding the long-term goals of the Trust.

The Director of Development will lead the Trust’s development and fundraising efforts with a goal of diversifying the trust’s funding portfolio.

In addition to implementing fundraising strategies to increase the organization’s support, the Director of Development will be responsible for designing and managing a three-year comprehensive, proactive development plan that focuses on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships; managing development consultants, encouraging and staffing a Development Committee on the Board of Directors, maintaining a proactive, creative leadership role in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation annual contributions, preparing and managing proposal submissions, and upholding the highest quality standards for written materials.
This is a highly visible position within the DC Children & Youth Investment Trust Corporation.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant major, 5-10 years o increasingly responsible positions in fundraising, must be computer literate and fluent in the Microsoft Office Suite and have demonstrated experience in managing budgets. The successful candidate will also be able to work in a hands-on environment with limited resources, and have the ability to effectively gain the respect and support of various constituencies including board and staff members, donors, foundations and civic leaders.
