The Trust Seeks Grant Reviewers for FY10 Summer Grant Competition

The Trust is seeking individuals to review grant proposals for the 2010 Summer Grant Competition.  This is an excellent opportunity to network with colleagues in the fields of youth development and out-of-school, learn more about the grant-making process, develop your own grant-writing skills, learn about exciting initiatives happening in local schools, and contribute your knowledge and experience to help Trust efforts to select high-quality Out of School time programs in the District for funding.

What does a grant reviewer do?

Reviewers read approximately 6-8 proposals, score and evaluate said proposals, and discuss their findings with a small group of fellow reviewers and a facilitator. The panel then comes to consensus to rank the proposals according to quality and recommend them for the next level of review.

What qualifications should reviewers have?

The Trust is looking for a diverse group of reviewers--males and females of all ages, races and ethnicities—who reside in the DC Metro Area and have experience with youth development, education, community-based programs, and/or grant writing/management.  Reviewers must be comfortable reading a large volume of material in a short period of time and providing analysis in a small group.

What is the time commitment?

Reviewers must be available for one training session from February 8-10, 2009 (6:00pm-7:30pm) and during March 1-5, 2009 (exact times to be determined based on reviewer availability).  Reviewers will participate in an evening training session during February 8-12, 2009, and a consensus review session during the week of March 1-5, 2009.   The period between training and consensus session will be dedicated to reviewing and scoring the proposals which is approximately two weeks.

What type of compensation do reviewers receive?

Proposal reviewers will receive a $50.00 American Express Gift Card for their full participation.  Full participation includes attending the training session, completing the proposal review, and attending the consensus session.  Additionally,  the proposal review experience is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with colleagues in the youth development field; find out about exciting programming and trends in out of school time programming; develop a deeper understanding of the grant-writing and grant-making processes; and contribute experience to the selection of high-quality programs for the District of Columbia.

How does one apply to become a reviewer?

What are the next steps after submitting a resume?

The Trust will review resumes and contact only qualified applicants.
